As passionate Dahlia growers, the team at dahliasnz.com is always
on the lookout for resources that inspire and educate – and
Floret Farm’s – Discovering Dahlias by Erin Benzakein
is one of the best we’ve come across.

This beautifully presented book is more than just Eye candy (though the photography alone
is reason enough to own it). It’s packed with practical advice on growing, caring for, and
arranging dahlias—making it a fantastic resource for both beginners and experienced
growers alike. From choosing varieties and planting tubers to dividing, storing, and creating stunning floral arrangements, every page is filled with useful, easy-to-follow information.

One of the standout features is the Variety Finder section. Erin shares her top 360 dahlia
varieties—carefully selected from over 800 grown at Floret Farm – for their beauty,
versatility, and performance as cut flowers. These varieties are grouped into 11 colour
classes, making it easy to find the perfect dahlia for any bouquet or garden palette.

We’ve tried to adopt a similar classification based on colour grouping here on dahliasnz.com
You’ll see some varieties marked as Floret Farm Recommended, with a select few also
noted as Floret Farm Favorites, highlighted with a heart ❤️ symbol—perfect for those
looking for trusted, florist-worthy choices. While we don’t have all the varieties mentioned
in the book available in New Zealand at the moment, we’ve gathered as many as
we could find locally and hope to add more to our website collection in the near future.

We highly recommend Floret Farm’s – Discovering Dahlias to our customers –
it’s a must-have for anyone who loves these magnificent blooms as much as we do.
