Frequently Asked Questions

Who Are Dahlias NZ?

Dahlias NZ is a community of passionate dahlia growers based in Waikato. Our group was formed by growers who believe in mutual support and collaboration. We share tubers and cuttings among ourselves, ensuring that if any plants are lost to disease or rot, other members can help restore them.

Our approach is proactive: we cultivate more plants than necessary to ensure we have replacements on hand. This allows us to share healthy plants among members if a particular variety fails to thrive, helping everyone maintain a vibrant and diverse collection of dahlias.

Why Did the Website Take So Long?

During our testing phase, we explored various options for the website, including adding more features for shopping and checkout, such as different shipping and payment options. However, we discovered that each additional feature required separate plug-ins, which come with monthly or annual costs.

These costs can quickly add up, making the venture quite expensive. Since our focus isn’t year-round, we decided to keep things simple and affordable.

Our streamlined process is as follows:

  1. Buyers place their orders.
  2. We check the availability of the items.
  3. Buyers receive shipping costs and payment details.
  4. Items are shipped upon payment.

We anticipate having tubers and plants available in late winter and early spring.

Important Information About Orders and Payments

Initially, we didn’t plan to become a paid site, as this would require additional security plugins that could increase the overall costs of maintaining the website. However, after conducting our first sales through the Early Access terminal, we recognized that enhancing security is essential for any website.

We have implemented a robust security system with strict protocols, which some of you may have already experienced. If there are any insecure connections or user errors, you might be temporarily locked out of the site. To avoid this, please ensure you store your password securely to prevent any issues during the sale.

Once you place an order, we will promptly check the availability and quality of the items you’ve selected. After confirming your order, we will contact you directly to discuss shipping options and payment – NZ Bank Transfer.

Our goal is to ensure you receive the best possible service and products, so we handle these details personally to guarantee everything meets our high standards.

We also thoroughly inspect all items for disease and rot before shipping to ensure they meet our high standards.

Our plants and tubers come from a gall-free garden, with parent plants that have been carefully grown and monitored for at least two years. After confirming your order, we will contact you directly to discuss shipping options and payment methods.

This is our first year in operation, so you won’t find any online reviews just yet. We truly hope you enjoy shopping with us and give us the opportunity to start this small venture on the right foot!

If you have any questions or need more information, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your support!

What Sets Us Apart?

Our plants and tubers are grown in Waikato, in a disease-free garden, ensuring you receive healthy, thriving plants.

Our plants and tubers come with visible eyes or are pre-planted in small pots, making it easy for you to transfer them directly into your garden—just plant them out and watch them grow!

We also want to be transparent about shipping costs. We only charge what the freight company quotes us, without any extra fees.

Please be aware that shipping costs have increased in New Zealand, but rest assured, you’ll only pay the actual cost.
